Our Programs
How Our Preschool is Structured
At New Horizons Preschool, our learning community is thoughtfully structured to support strong relationships, a sense of belonging and sustained learning over time.
Our preschool consists of four classes, each carefully designed to meet the developmental needs of the children within them. Across these classes, families choose the weekly program or combination of programs that best suits their needs. Children may attend Inquiry Program 1, Connections, Inquiry Program 2, or a combination of these programs throughout the week. Consistent enrolment patterns allow children to build strong relationships, revisit learning and participate in long-term inquiry projects.
Our Classes
Paizo and Syndessi
Paizo and Syndessi are mixed-age preschool classes for children who turn three or four during the current calendar year. These classes provide a nurturing environment where children build confidence, develop friendships and begin engaging in collaborative inquiry. Each class offers a rich and meaningful preschool experience, with educators responding to the unique strengths, interests and developmental needs of the children within the group.
Erevna
Erevna is our class for pre-kinder children who turn four during the first half of the calendar year. The program provides additional opportunities for children to extend their independence, confidence and participation in more complex learning experiences as they prepare for the following year.
Omilea
Omilea is our kindergarten equivalent program for children in the year before school. Through sustained inquiry, intentional teaching and meaningful play, children are supported to develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions that provide a strong foundation for their transition to school.
Our Weekly Programs
Our enrolment patterns are intentionally designed to support continuity, allowing children to revisit ideas, strengthen relationships and participate in long-term inquiry projects with the same group of children and educators.
Inquiry Program 1
Monday & Tuesday
Children attend the same two-day program each week, allowing investigations, projects and collaborative learning to continue over time rather than beginning again each day.
Connections Program
Wednesday
The Connections Program brings children together through shared experiences that strengthen relationships across our preschool community. It provides opportunities for collaboration, community participation and connections that complement the inquiry programs.
Inquiry Program 2
Thursday & Friday
Like Inquiry Program 1, this two-day program supports sustained inquiry and collaborative learning. While both inquiry programs are connected through our whole-preschool pedagogical approach, each develops in unique ways according to the interests, questions and ideas of the children attending those days.
Why two-day inquiry programs?
We believe children learn best when they are part of a consistent learning community.
Attending the same two-day inquiry program each week allows children to build secure relationships with educators and peers, revisit previous learning, contribute to long-term investigations and develop increasingly complex ideas over time. Rather than experiencing isolated daily activities, children become active participants in an ongoing learning journey.
